Why Humans Will Never Conquer Space

Look at that astronaut. So lonely. And look at his backpack.
- Oxygen
- Water
- Food
- Heating/cooling
- Radiation shielding
- Pee/poo bag
If you put a sentient server rack out there it wouldn’t need much beyond electricity and radiation shielding.
That’s one reason I don’t think human beings will ultimately conquer space. I’m sorry but,
It won’t be us.

Another reason is that we’re just scaled wrong, in terms of space time. A space-faring race should live for 1000s of years, and be able to play solo Minecraft for a good percentage of that.
If you want to populate the universe with humans you need to
- Move much of the Earth with them
- Travel faster than light to fit our lifespans
But what if you didn’t have those limitations at all? What if we just took humans out of the equation, as capitalism is wont to do?
Then all of a sudden space travel makes sense. You have Strong AI populating the universe at a slow but exponential space, like a chain mail. Strong AI doesn’t have to warp circumstances to make them more Earth-like, that race would essentially be space native.
That is where I think both AI and technology are going. Towards creating a space-faring race.
