The Problem Of Multiple Screens

Why do I have to email photos to myself to get them on my computer?

Why can’t I just flick my phone towards my computer screen to move a photo or file over there? In the same way, why can’t I just throw a contact number to a friend? It’s silly.

These devices, as physical devices are completely unaware of their surrounding and other devices around them unless it’s mediated through a cloud back in Palo Alto. And it doesn’t need to be.

The average Medium-reading human these days has two or three screens within three feet of each other but we have to manually move stuff around, either through activating Bluetooth (which I’ve never really figured out), having multiple AirPlay compatible devices (entailing more remittances to Apple) or simply emailing files around.

What I really want to do is just hold my phone over this screen and empty out a particular photo. I hope that’s coming soon.
